J. Cole performs "Can't Get Enough" on 'Jimmy Fallon'

My favorite rapper, North Carolina's J. Cole, is not stopping the promotion of his debut abum anytime soon, even though it came out in October. The Best New Artist Grammy nominee performed his second single "Can't Get Enough" on 'Fallon' last night with a little help from The Roots. Check it out below:

I know Nicki Minaj is hands down the favorite to win the Best New Artist Grammy, but I really hope J. Cole wins it. He really deserves it. But it won't happen. Either way, I'm happy for him. He had a crazy 2011, and I cannot wait to see what he has in store for 2012. He said the sophomore album should be coming out this summer, but I'll give him until fall. Summer seems too soon, especially since he's still promoting the debut and is about to release "Nobody's Perfect" as a single. Either way, I'm excited.

Girls' Generation Murder 'Live with Kelly' performing "The Boys"

I posted about Girls' Generartion murdering the David Letterman stage last night, and the amount of views that post received is crazy! I'm glad people really loved it.

This morning, The Divine Nine, as The Prophet Blog calls them, were back on their campaign to win over America. They performed the original version of their song "The Boys" and of course, they killed it. Watch below for the dope performance plus the fun interview at the end:

I love how they do such complicated choreography and they do it in unison. It's crazy! And the crowd was loving it! The interview after was great as well.

From my understanding, this was their last US performance for their mini US promo blitz, but it was fun getting introduced to this group. They are insanely talented, and are (performance wise) on a level with the best American performers out now (Beyonce & Lady Gaga). Maybe next, 2NE1 can come to America and show us how epic they are. We need some girl groups in our lives. And to be honest, I don't care if their Korean or American. As long as the music and dancing is good, I'll be a fan.

They absolutely murdered it! Besides Beyonce, when's the last time you've seen an American TV performance this good? I'm not a huge fan of there being 9 of them, it seems a little much, but they killed it! I hope they find success here in America. I could get used to seeing performances like that more often. Hopefully Robin Antin has been watching K-Pop performances and has The Pussycat Dolls dancing just as hard in their comeback.

VIDEO: Bei Maejor - The Truth

RCA Records recording artist, Bei Maejor, has been doing his thing on the production tip for a while now. At 24, he's already produced & written for Ciara, Drake, Trey Songz, Chrisette Michele, Monica, Ney Yo, Keri Hilson, Frank Ocean....the list goes on. Last year, he released his debut single, "Trouble" which featured J. Cole and while I wasn't fond of it at first, it really grew on me, and on the urban charts as well.

Next month (February), Maejor is releasing his Upscale EP. "Upscale R&B" is the sound he describes his music to be and I couldn't agree more. He's a super dope producer & song writer so the EP is bound to be really good. Check out his video for the song "The Truth." It tells the story of his unprotected one night stand with his best friend's girl, and how she wakes up the next morning and says she wants to have his baby. Watch below:

Nice! The lyrics to this song were so raw & honest. Maejor is definitely going places.

Nicole Scherzinger & Paula Abdul Booted from X Factor

In a turn of events that everyone knew was BOUND to happen, Nicole Scherzinger will not be returning to the judging panel on FOX's hit singing competition, 'The X Factor.' More surprisingly, Paula Abdul also will not be returning to the pnael, leaving Simon & L.A. to find to more female counterparts. The host , Steve Jones, got the axe too, but he wasn't important enough to be put into the title.

First off, thank goodness! Paula and Nicole together delivered nothing to table besides eye candy. That's it. They would stick together and take turns bashing Simon or sticking up for every contestant, and nothing interesting came from the pair, especially Nicole.

Paula's replacement is all but confirmed: Mariah Carey. Simon has been trying to get Mariah on the panel since before the show started, and she said herself she would have been a judge had she not just given birth during the audition process. So, she is definitely in a position to take Paula's seat. And she's EXTREMELY shady without even trying so she will make for good TV.

Nicole's replacement is a bit more of a toss up, but I think there's one woman who definitely is a frontrunner for the spot. Kelly Rowland was the STAR of the UK's 'X Factor' last season. Her charm and personality and gorgeousness, her fights with judges Tulisa & Louis Walsh were classic, and everyone loved her over there (well, for the most part.) But she's stated many times that travelling back & forth between London & the States while trying to record and promote an album was extremely difficult. And she also said she wants to focus on touring this year. So, given a chance to remain stateside this year would be perfect for her. She could tour this summer, taking time off for the audition days. The live shows don't start until October/November so she'll have plenty of time to record her 5th album. And then once the live shows start, she can promote the album without having to worry about flying overseas over & over. And like Mariah, she'll definitely add some spice to the panel.

Simon better play his cards right picking the replacements!

Rumors are now floating that Simon is going to book Mariah & Fergie as judges, and Victoria Beckham as judge, even though producers and sponsor Pepsi, are fighting to get Ryan Seacrest. Stay tuned...

VIDEO: Busta Rhymes (feat. Chris Brown) - Why Stop Now

Last year, these two paired up (along with Lil Wayne) to give us one of the best hip hop songs and videos of the year, "Look At Me Now." And now that Busta is readying his own album, he decided it would be smart to take what the two did last year to another level. "Why Stop Now" sounded a mess when I first heard it a few weeks back. But, the video was released today, and my mind has been slightly changed. Watch below:

Now THAT is how you do a video. Probably the best Hype Williams video I've seen in a long time (Hype has been going down hill lately, but this one was an exception). The dungeon feel, the killer bees, the special effects, the scene with Busta claiming "the throne," Chris' ridiculous, painful looking dance moves...everythingabout this video was dope! As for the track, I still am having trouble with the beat, it's too muc. but the video definitely made up for that!

Somebody who's been in the industry for a LONG time is finally looking to release her debut album. After two stints on the hit VH1 show 'Love & Hip Hop,' Olivia finally is getting some offers from a few record labels; offers that she wants. Her problem hasn't been getting a record deal. She says her problem has been getting the right deal. She's not trying to go through the same shit she went through with G-Unit & with J Records, so her taking her time and not taking the first offer on the table, actually makes sense.

Anyways, below is the video to her brand new single, "Walk Away." It tells the story of a girl who is getting abused by her boyfriend, but finds it too hard to "walk away" from the situation. A pretty dope video. Watch below:

People have really been on her case lately (myself included), because on 'Love & Hip Hop,' she's shown turning down at least two different deals, and she keeps complaining about not having one. People think she's stupid because "if you get offered a deal, you should take it and run." But that's not the case. This girl has been signed 2 times before. So she obviously knows what kind of deal she wants, and what kind of deal she doesn't. It's not about just signing because it's being offered to you. Why sign a $1.5 million deal (which she was offered), when most of the money would go towards her album (producers, marketing) and she would get no creative control. Clearly, she's been through a similar situation before. So I hope all works out for her in the end because she's definitely talented, and she's gorgeous.

It's Official: Meet The New Pussycat Dolls

So a couple months back, a fake image leaked of the "supposed" new Pussycat Doll line up, but it turned out to be fake. However, some of the girls from the fake photo actually made the final line-up, which already have a Super Bowl commercial filmed, as well as a reality show coming in a few months. So, meet the new girls.

To start off, Vanessa Curry (the black haired beauty) is a former Los Angles Lakers dancer. She's also a rumored mistress of Kobe Bryant. Erica Jenkins (the red head) is a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. Paula Van Oppen (Amber Rose 2.0) is a finalist from the TV show 'So You Think You Can Dance.' She also danced for/choreographed with Laurie Ann Gibson. See a trend?

There are only two known singers. The first is the blonde, Lauren Bennett, who was the female lead in the smash LMFAO single, "Party Rock Anthem." She was also a member of girl group Paradiso Girls a few years ago. I hope she's the lead singer because she is really good! And guess what else, she's British. The other singer is the "Melody Thornton" replacement, Chrystina Sayers. She's from Robin Antin's failed group, Girlicious. Decent vocals.

So there you have it. Two singers and three dancers. Just like old times, right? At least we know this, the dancing should be the best shit we've seen since Britney in her prime. I mean, three of them were professional dancers. And with the right single (hell, just throw Pitbull on the track and call up David Guetta), they can pick up where the previous girls left off in no time. Especially with a reality show produced by Nigel Lythgoe and Kim Kardashian. Are you excited to see what the new girls have in store?

Christina Aguilera Sings "At Last" at Etta James' Funeral

This week, we lost one of the greatest singers of the 20th century: Etta James. She passed at the age of 73 due to a terminal illness. Today, at her funeral, Christina Aguilera was called upon to honor the James' family with a tribute to the late soul legend. Watch Christina's performance below:

Iggy Azalea Signs To Interscope + Exclusive Interview w/ Billboard

Interscope seems to be the "it" label when it comes to signing "the next big thing." Four years ago, there was Lady Gaga. Then Keri Hilson. Then more recently, Mindless Behavior and of course, Lana Del Rey. And now, another "next big thing" artist has signed to Jimmy Iovine's label: Iggy Azalea.

Iggy researched every potential label before and after taking meetings. She considered how each one would handle her vision and image. "I think they [labels] have things that they specialize in. Def Jam, I love. I was super close to signing with them. I think they're just the best team. I think they're really passionate about what they do and you can just tell that they're so hungry over there. But then you look at who they've got signed to their label and it kind of makes you be like, 'I don't know. Am I going to be the guinea pig here for this?' I don't know."

Still, she had doubts about signing on the dotted line, questioning the move from indie to major label status. "I started thinking, 'Oh God, am I going to sign to a label? Maybe I won't. And if I don't, what's my plan b?' It was starting to freak me out a little bit," Iggy said. "I've based a lot on what I thought was going to be [on] me signing to a major. And now I was getting into it, I didn't know if that would be the best for this moment in time because I didn't, [still don't] want to short sell myself or find something I'm not happy with."

Jimmy Iovine, chairman of Interscope/Geffen/A&M Records, caught word of Iggy's doubts and assured her that this was indeed the right move for her, "I think once Jimmy saw that I was starting to pull away and be like, 'No, I'll just do my own thing,' he was like, 'What do you want lady?' And I was like, 'Alright, let's cut the bullshit.'"

Iovine has high hopes for the rapper who's currently working on her debut album, "The New Classic," due June 2012. He even compared Iggy to one of her own idols, 2Pac. "He's crazy. He's like, 'You're the next Tupac!' I'm like you're absolutely insane. But I love it!" - Billboard Magazine

NEW MUSIC: Melanie Fiona (feat. Sean Paul) - 4 AM (Remix)

The oddest collaboration of the year so far comes from Melanie Fiona & Sean Paul. When you think of "4 AM," you don't think Sean Paul...AT ALL. But this remix is actually a proper remix, not just an added verse. New dance/reggae/dubstep beat, new vocal arrangement. And it actually kind of works. Check it out:

Definitely for the clubs. Melanie's music probably very seldom gets played in the club so this could be a welcome beginning for her. Apparently, this track will be placed on her upcoming mixtape, which will before the May release of her album, The MF Life.

***Sidenote*** For all of us "4 AM" lovers, the ORIGINAL version is no longer a failed single. This week, the song jumped into the top 10 of the urban radio charts. Right now, it sits at #9 and it's still climbing! I'm SO happy for her. This song deserves to reach #1, but now she's competing with a bunch of rappers for the top spot. Can she do it? I think so. Melanie better books some TV spots ASAP!

John has said that this song will be featured on the 'Think Like A Man' soundtrack, and will also serve as the first single from his upcoming album, unless people hate it. At least he was honest. And for me, honestly, I don't think this will be the first single. It's not catchy enough. Nothing about it screams hit to me. It's a nice song, but not first single worthy.

I don't want him to go and do something like "Green Light," something that was catchy & had crossover appeal. I want him to go back to that "Ordinary People" or "Get Light" or "Cloud Nine" sound. That's the amazingness I expect from somebody like him. And this, this ain't it.

Diddy To Launch New Music Themed Cable Network

Can’t stop, won’t stop. Sean “Diddy” Combs is expanding his entertainment empire. The Bad Boy mogul is planning to launch a music-themed cable network at the end of the year, according to several sources.

Broadcasting & Cable reports that Diddy’s new channel will be called Revolt and is aiming to go live on 12/12/12.

Former MTV programming chief Andy Schuon is reportedly involved with the well-funded venture. He previously headed a music channel called International Music Feed (IMF).

Diddy has been in talks with Comcast and Time Warner Cable to distribute Revolt, which is being described as a music and music news channel with an urban skew. One source likened it to the old days of MTV, but catered to an African-American audience.

Diddy’s Bad Boy office did not confirm reports, but a Time Warner Cable spokesperson said they have had “some discussions” regarding the network.

John West Remakes Rihanna's "We Found Love"

New Island Def Jam artist, John West is starting to make a name for himself. 2011 saw West go from California boardwalk performer to arena performer, opening for everybody from B.o.B to Gavin Degraw. He released his label-backed EP in the summer with songs like "Lovely" featuring Pusha T. Then, late last year, he released "Already There" featuring Big Sean as a single (I think). And now, to keep the momentum going, he's released a cover of Rihanna super smash single, "We Found Love." Check it out:

Completely did not realize this was "We Found Love" for a second. I loved it! Hopefully we get a legit first single from John soon.

The Hit Album That Never Was: Ciara's 'Fantasy Ride'

The mishandling of Ciara's third album still befuddles me to this day. And yes, I did just say befuddle. While many say that it's Ciara worst album to date, those same people have probably never listened to it through to the end and based their opinion on the low record sales (which alot of music fans do today, unfortunately). The problem with the album wasn't the music, at all. In fact, some of the songs on Fantasy Ride were her strongest to this day.

First was the operatic club banger "High Price." Featuring Ludacris, "High Price" was slated to be the huge lead single from the project...until it leaked and got demoted to album track. Ciara then went on to release "Go Girl," which surprisingly underperformed. I honestly love that song, and the video is quite honestly one of the better R&B videos of the past 3 years. Then Jive stupidly released the lackluster "Never Ever." To make up for it, she quickly hit the studio with Justin Timberlake to get a guaranteed hit single, "Love Sex Magic." And a top 10 hit it was. But that honestly didn't help her much.

But after that single, Fantasy Ride kind of became, extinct. "Turntables" was slated to be a HUGE single, as it was a urban-dance smash and featured Chris Brown, who at the time was the "IT" guy in the music world. And seeing how Ciara & Chris are probably the best dancers we've had since the Jackson's, people would've went insane for the live performances and the video. But then, Chris decided he wanted beat the shit out of Rihanna, and all hope was lost for that song as a single.

Two other songs were announced as singles, but never were released. Two songs that should have been the two lead singles to begin with: "Work" feat. Missy Elliott, and "Like A Surgeon." "Work" was easily a top 5 hit waiting to happen. It was Ciara's sequel to "1 2 Step" and could've been equally as big. "Like A Surgeon" would have dominated R&B charts, much like "Ride" did in 2010. For me, "Like A Surgeon" is one of Ciara's best songs to date. If you don't agree, listen to it in your car with the bass turned up.

The sexy Ginuwine "Pony" meets Janet Jackson vibe mixed with the crazy but super dope medical/hospital metaphors, genius! I really have to give Dream his props on this one. Tricky as well. Every time I hear this song, I start imagining the video and how epic this song could have been for her. Who the hell chose to release "Never Ever" when she had songs like "Work" & "Like A Surgeon" on the album? "Pucker Up" was another pop smash (it fit right in with Gaga's music at the time) that went to waste. It makes no sense.

Even the album songs are pretty dope. The album opener "Ciara To The Stage" is a sexy slow urban song that gets you in the mood right before the album explodes into uptempo land. "Keep Dancin On Me" is a Dream written, Tricky produced dance song: A slower dance record that would have been praised on a Rihanna album. Ci closes the album with the breezy, mid-tempo ode to being drunk, "I Don't Remember," which paints a vivid picture in your head as you listen. A big step away from her "Goodies" sound.

Jive's mishandling of Fantasy Ride was so insane, I still don't understand it. Ciara fed us the stories about how she needed to go back to her urban, hood sound, back to the "basics," but if L.A. Reid is smart, Ciara's debut Epic Records album will follow the format used for Fantasy Ride: an international pop album, but with heavy urban roots. There's no reason she can't be as big as Rihanna, especially seeing how she's much more talented. But can L.A. get people interested again? Will he play his cards right? There's rumors of a first single featuring Drake being released soon. If true, that's a promising start to a new chapter in her story.

Ciara To Star in Adam Sandler Film 'Donny's Boy' Due Out In June

In a surprising turn of events, it seems like Ciara has a few tricks up her sleeve to go along with her new record deal over at Epic. The Georgia peach will be starring in 'Donny's Boy,' a comedy film starring Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, & Leighton Meester. Ciara will play a character named Brie. The movie is about a father moves in with his son right before his wedding and soon begins sparring with his daughter-in-law and is set to release June 15.

Seeing how Leighton Meester is the lead female, the daughter-in-law, I'm predicting Ciara will be one of her her BFF's or something, which is still a very good look for her. Andy Samberg & Adam Sandler are comedy geniuses, and this is no low-budget, straight to TV/DVD affair, so I actually may have to check this movie out. A good look for her indeed. And seeing how the movie is coming out in June, I think we'll be getting a summer album from Ms. Harris...or at least, that would make sense...

I knew this would happen. X Factor judge L.A. Reid, who also happens to be the head of Epic Records, has made a move that many saw coming. He's signed all three of his acts from the first season of X Factor USA: the hip-pop artist Chris Rene, the young rapper Astro, and the R&B crooner Marcus Canty.

All three have signed deals with Epic/Sony Music and are excited about their futures, thanks to mentor L.A. Reid. My question is, who do you think will be the most successful?

In my opinion, Chris Rene will be the most successful, maybe even more successful than Melanie Amaro. People were really rooting for him and inspired by his story on the show. And, he's already given us a taste of what is original music sounds like. Also, he fits perfectly into the euro pop/hip hop/urban pop world we live in today. If marketed right, he could have at least 3 or 4 top 10 singles by the end of the year.

As far as Astro, I don't see him doing anything, anytime soon. I mean, let's face it: when's the last time a cocky 15 year old rapper made it big, at that young of an age? The last 2 were Bow Wow & Romeo, and as far as I remember, their attitudes were much better. Maybe he can tour with Mindless Behavior and Diggy Simmons and Co. to gain a fanbase, but he has some growing up to do before he becomes a mainstream artist.

Marcus Canty is the question mark for me. Yeah, he's really talented and he definitely deserves his deal. But how will he fare in the R&B world with Chris Brown and Trey Songz and Ne-Yo and Usher and Frank Ocean all prepping new albums. And will L.A. market him as an R&B artist, or more of the Jason Derulo type? That's my thing with him: where does he fit in the music world?

Brandy & Monica Team Up For "It All Belongs To Me" Single

Late 90's, these two women were huge names in the music world. Brandy was arguably one of the biggest music stars out and Monica was seeing immense success in the R&B world. Their duet "The Boy Is Mine" spent 13 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. And now, after 14 long years, the two have finally decided to duet again.

"It All Belongs To Me" is written & produced by Rico Love and will be released as both artists' new single on February 6. The record has been described by Rico as "very soulful with pop sensibilities." He says it's "classic R&B but definitely has crossover appeal" & "it picks up where "The Boy Is Mine" left off."

For me, the idea is the best part. As far as execution and expectation, I don't see the song being 1) as good or 2) as big as "The Boy Is Mine." That being said, the least I can hope for is that it sounds like nothing Rico has done before and both Monica, and especially Brandy are on their A game when it comes to the vocals. I can't wait to hear it!

My favorite new female rapper is coming, and coming fast. This week, she had dinner with Def Jam execs and Rihanna (a welcome dinner perhaps?), fueling rumors that she is the newest Def Jam signee (see DJ exec Bu Thiam's twitter).

Anyways, earlier this week, she released the video for her mixtape track, "The Last Song" and it already has over 500,000 views. Now, to keep her buzz/momentum going, she's released a remix to Nicki Minaj's hard-hitting "Roman In Moscow." Check it out below:

Iggy is not playing! She's seriously coming for that top spot. Or at least a close #2 (behind Nicki). Once she makes it big, her model looks and skin color will easily allow her to gain pop fans (just being honest) and from there, one "Super Bass" type track and a bunch of celebrity endorsements is all that is needed to solidify her status as the next big female rapper. Her package is so appealing and easy to market. And she's not a gimmick; she actually has talent and a vision to back her looks & hype. And she's only 21, unlike Nicki, who is in her late 20's.

***Sidenote*** She did something really smart in this song. While most females on the come-up diss Nicki, Iggy actually gave Nicki some props. If Nicki becomes a fans, her "barbs" will become fans...another win for Iggy. And not to mention, a collabo between the two would be CRAZY!

Lana Del Rey Suffers a Bad 'Saturday Night Live' Debut

The new girl on the block, New York's Lana Del Rey, is seeing a rapid rise to fame. She hasn't had a huge hit single (yet), or released her first album, but she's already gracing magazine covers and getting coveted performance spots on shows like 'Saturday Night Live.' This past Saturday, Lana took to the SNL stage to perform the two songs that catapulted her to fame, "Video Games" & "Blue Jeans." Peep the performances below:

Lana Lana Lana....that was bad. Really bad. Especially that "Video Games" performance. She was super nervous, and rightfully so, but that can't be used as an excuse for the non-existent stage presence she gave and the very "off" vocals. And why did she not perform "Born To Die?" I mean, isn't that her single (and a better song)? Anyways, hopefully Lana watches these videos and realizes she has to step her game up. She's delivered flawless performances of both of these songs before so it shouldn't be too hard.

Melanie Fiona and her label have been struggling to decide what song they want to be the follow-up single to The MF Life's "4 AM." It was reported a few weeks back that the Salaam Remi produced, Nas featured, "Running" would be the single, but in an interesting turn of events, Melanie debuted "Wrong Side Of A Love Song" on Sirius XM channel 'The Heat' and it is now being called the next single. I'm pissed because it's another ballad, BUT, the song is AMAZING. Listen below:

She sang her fucking heart out on this song. I'm in love with her. Ever since I was a little kid, I've had this HUGE crush on Beyonce. And I still do, but Melanie Fiona has definitely taken her place, in my mind. Like, everything she does, every song she makes, you can't find a fault with it. She's just that amazing. Not to mention she's ridiculously beautiful and down to earth.

I really hope this is the one that gets her back to the star level she was at when "It Kills Me" became a hit. This song deserves to be winning Grammy after Grammy. And if you think that's an overstatement, watch her perform it below. She slightly went off during this performance.

In March, the film adaption of Steve Harvey's book Act Like A Woman, Think Like A Man, hit theaters. The cast is ridiculously star-studded, including: Taraji P. Henson, Meagan Good, Michael Ealy, Gabrielle Union, Keri Hilson, Kelly Rowland, LaLa Anthony, Kevin Hart, Terrence J, Chris Brown....the list goes on. And from the looks of things, the soundtrack to the movies is going to be just as star-studded.

Earlier today, Funkmaster Flex premiered the lead single from the soundtrack, appropriately titled, "Think Like A Man." And I have to say, it's quite the banger. Listen below:

About damn time Jennifer does something not involving her beyond ridiculous Weight Watchers deal. I was ready to erase her from my memory for a while. But this track is really, really good! Better than every single she released from her last album to be honest. And it's definitely a good look for Ne Yo, as well as Ross. The beat, J Hud's vocal arrangement, the flow of NeYo's verse, Ross' verse: everything was on point. I think this could very well be a future #1 on the R&B charts.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK: Can Dawn Richard Become a R&B Star?

Every time I do a post on Dawn, this question comes to mind. And I wanted to start this new...segment, I guess, so this is the perfect first question. Do you think Dawn has what it takes to become a legit R&B star:

Now, we have to just come to terms with the fact that nobody, and I don't wanna say it's impossible, but it pretty much is, will be able to reach Beyonce's level of success. And when it comes to black females, nobody will touch Beyonce & Rihanna, Alicia & Mary for a long while. Ciara & Ashanti have probably been the closest to becoming huge worldwide R&B superstars, and in some ways they still are, but as of late...no.

I don't think Dawn will ever reach the level of any of the 4 women I first named. But I do believe Dawn can reach the level of success that Keri Hilson has seen in the last few years. I think can definitely reach the level of fame of someone like Keyshia Cole or Keri or even Trey Songz: a R&B staple, but not neccessarily a world wide superstar.

Dawn has an amazing voice, she dances, she writes, she's hella creative, she has a fan base already. So what do you guys think?

Thanks to Kanye West, a new female MC has received a ridiculous amount of hype out of NOWHERE in the last couple of months: Azealia Banks. She's already rumored to have signed a deal with G.O.O.D. Music and will be playing at Coachella this year. She's started beefs with Kreayshawn and gained Lil Kim's fanbase for saying Nicki Minaj isn't as good as people seem to think. NOt to mention the indie crowd penning her the next big thing. But, to be honest, she's not the best female MC on the come up.

The two new female MC's that I think are FAR superior: 1) the sexy, destined for pop-rap stardom, Iggy Azalea, and 2) the old-school lyricist, Nitty Scott MC.

Iggy Azalea is from Australia, but she's lived in the US since her teens. And as of late, her buzz is through the rood, and rightfully so. She has a rapid fire flow and looks like Christina Aguilera in her prime mixed with Amber Rose. Also, she has a ridiculous amount of crossover appeal, enough to make pop lovers forget about Nicki Minaj. Yesterday she released a video for her mixtape track, "The Last Song." How gorgeous is she? The body, the super long hair (which is all real), the style...I love it all. This song, I'm not 100% a fan of. But when I know she's capable of doing shit like this and this, I still would list her as one of the top 2 up and coming feamle rappers. And let's be honest, there's only room for 1 (if there's room for that) white female rapper. And guys are gonna choose the one with the sex appeal and rapid flow over the "swaggerific" weird, film student...sorry Kreayshawn.

Now, is it the greatest song in the world? No. Does Amber Rose have powerhouse vocals? No. Was "We Found Love" the best song in the world? No, and it went #1 for 8 weeks in a row. So, my point is, people are going to hate on this just because it's Amber, that's obvious. But in all actuality, this sounds no different than something that would be a hit on top 40 radio. And this song actually has a meaning behind it; it's not just a "let's go get drunk at the club" song.

People are going to hate because she's "talentless" or simply because they think she's a "slut." But the vocal on this song is just as good as vocals from people like Dev, Cassie, etc. I can't hate, because there's no reason to, to be honest. Do I love it, no. Do I hate it, no. But I'm sure people will find something to hate.

It's a girl!

Congratulations are in order for Beyonce Knowles & Shawn Carter. The couple of 11 years are the new, proud parents to baby girl, Blue Ivy Carter.

Beyonce gave birth in a highly secured, New York Hospital late Saturday night, reported spending over $1 million to ensure the birth was a special moment for family members only. Pictures of the baby girl will be released when the parents feel ready to share...or should I say, if the parents feel ready to share.

I'm so happy for them! I'm happy they went about all of this the right way. They started dating way back in Bey's Destiny's Child days. And they were very secretive all the way until about 2002, when they started to musically collaborate on songs like " 03 Bonnie & Clyde" & "Crazy & Love" & "That's how You Like It." Next up were the paparazzi shots of them on vacation together, thought they never really confirmed they were dating until about '05/'06. Then, they finally got married in '08 and still waited 4 years to have a baby. That's commitment and dedication. Maybe some of my generation will take note of this and stop having babies while they're still in high school...sure would be nice if Beyonce would emphasize what I summed up in her upcoming interviews.

Anyways, I'm very happy for all of the family. I'm soooo jealous of that little girl. She's 2 days old and already has more money than I will EVER see in my life. She has music ROYAL in BOTH of her parents. And let's not forget about her extended family: Barack & Michelle, Oprah, Rihanna, Kanye, Diddy, Russell Simmons, Kelly, Michelle, Gwenyth Paltrow, GaGa... Birthdays & Christmas will be out of control for this little girl.

Anyways, just because, here's a little tribute to Beyonce & Jay-Z on this very special day. Pay attention to the lyrics. All of them have come true. It was definitely meant to be.

Jade Alston is an up & coming R&B singer from Philadelphia. She's 24 & has been doing her thing for a while now: touring/opening with Amerie, Trina, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, and others... she's a hustler, and I love that. Now, she's ready to hit it big in the R&B game, working with the likes of Claude Kelly & Chuck Harmony.

So it looks like, as of now, Dawn is an independent artist. But that's not getting in the way of her hustle, as she's just premiered the video for her debut single, "SMFU," which is taken from her upcoming debut album, Goldenheart. Check out the black-and-white visual below:

To say that she funded this herself, she did an amazing job! The video was very creative, it really tied into the song, and even showed off some of Dawn's dancing skills. I loved it.

The REAL question is: how successful can Dawn be as an independent artist? Is she getting offers from labels? Does she want a major deal? I believe for this album to be the success she & I both want it to be, she's gonna need major backing behind her. I mean, a Bad Boy deal wouldn't even be bad as of now because Diddy is really getting his shit together with the artists he has now. It's not like she's an unknown R&B entity. She has to have countless business relationships thanks to Danity Kane & Dirty Money (she's probably worked with almost every top notch producer/writer in the business). Maybe "SMFU" will be the showcase she uses to get attention from the major execs. I don't know. But what I do know is, I can't wait to hear what Dawn has in store for us next.

Yesterday on 106 & Park, Melanie stopped by to talk life after the show, who she wants to work with on her album (you can tell she really won't have much say because she knows little about songwriters, etc), and she even sang a little "Best Thing I Never Had." Check out the interview below:

The fact that she said "I heard Ne-Yo is a good songwriter" really rubbed me the wrong way. Her saying that shows she knows absolutely nothing about the music industry and she's just gonna go along for the ride and enjoy it, being a puppet. That's fine, I guess, but it may backfire in the end. Anyways, I can't wait to hear what her single will sound like. We should be getting one in the next couple of months. It'll probably sound like the song she sang at the end, which may not be a bad thing...

NEW MUSIC: The Dream - ROC

It's nice! As his music always is. I watched the interview he recently did with Tim Westwood, where he talks about making $15 million off of "Umbrella," not being able to work with Ciara anymore, and a bunch of other stuff. He also talked about how labels went crazy when he first produced "Bed" for J. Holiday, and how he wanted that sound for his music, and how he's happy his albums aren't huge. He said he'd rather do real R&B music and do under 500K than crossover to pop radio like the songs he writes for others.

So, with that being said, and he actually seemed genuine while saying it, I can't really fault this because, yes, it probably won't be the biggest hit, but it's a good song. And that's the way he wants it so, I can't really complain.

If you read my 2012 Predictions post, I predicted that this chick, Neon Hitch, the former gypsy, would become a pretty big pop star in 2012. And it looks like she's ready to prove me right. Already, Neon is gearing up to release her new single, "Fuck U Betta" ("Love U Betta" for the radio) and it sounds like it'll pick up right where Britney Spears' last CD ended. Quick question: is it me or did she sound exactly like Britney Spears at times? Anyways, I like the song. If this were 2 years ago, I would've HATED it, but over the last 2 years I've really come to enjoy this dance sound, though I'm ready for every non-pop artist to stop attempting it. But for the POP singers, I understand it.

Anyways, as I said before, I think 2012 is Neon's (that's her real name in case your wondering) year to blow up. Remember the way Ke$ha blew up at the beginning of 2010? I think Neon will do the same, maybe not as big at first though. But she's on her way with this single, and with her feature on Gym Class Heroe's new single "Ass Back Home," and I'm sure she has more features lined up.

Melanie Amaro Signs To Epic Records

While I was under the impression all of this time that Melanie would sign to her X Factor mentor's, Simon's, Syco/Sony label, turns out, she had other plans.

“I joined The X Factor to be able to discover undeniable talent such as Melanie,” comments Mr. Reid. “I am pleased that she is now signed to Epic Records because I believe we have only scratched the surface on uncovering her talent and her inevitable journey to super-stardom.”

Simon Cowell adds, “We all agreed that Epic would be the right fit for Melanie. L.A. made it clear that he wanted the opportunity to work with her and with his track record, you can’t say no to that.”

Melanie will be signed to both L.A.'s Epic & Simon's Syco label, which is very weird, but very promising to say the least. Having two of the industry's biggest, most respected executives backing you is a major feat. She'll have access to anything and everybody she wants. And for those who are questioning how she'll fare, look at LA's diva track record: Rihanna, Toni Braxton, Pink, Avril Lavigne, Mariah Carey (the huge Emancipation era). And Simon's no slouch either with Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Susan Boyle, and to some extent Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Jordin Sparks, Carrie Underwood...

Melanie's in good hands but we'll she be given radio-friendly Ester Dean, Stargate, Tricky/Dream songs? Or will Simon & L.A. try to make sure her album shows why she is worth $5 million? To be honest, I think we'll get the former.

B.o.B. Announces 2nd Album Release Date

Bobby Ray hit the scene bigger than any new rapper back in 2010. He had not one, not two, but three HUGE singles that year, and is looking to do the same this year. He's already released the hit title track "Strange Clouds" and just recently released second single "Play The Guitar" featuring Andre 3000. And now B.o.B has set a date for the album.

'Strange Clouds' is set to be released March 13. It'll feature production from Bobby himself, Jim Jonsin, Dr. Luke ("Stange Clouds"), Salaam Remi, and many more. As far as features, be on the look out for Nelly, Big KRIT, T.I., Ryan Tedder, Mos Def, and somebody huge who never does features. Lady Gaga perhaps? Katy?

2012: The Predictions

I did this post last year just for shits and gigs, but, I actually predicted alot of stuff to be true. I predicted Katy's divorce, Jennifer Lopez's huge year, Rihanna's huge year, Chris Brown huge year, Drake's CD being one of the best of the year, as I did Lupe's Lasers. I predicted Ne-Yo would continue to write songs for others, but struggle on his own. I predicted Gaga's huge 1st week sales and her pending world domination. I predicted J. Cole's take over of rap, but not being as successful as Drake. The things I was wildly wrong about: the Brits coming to take over (I predicted about 4 of them doing so, none of which were Adele lol).

So, here's my predictions for the 2012 music year.

- The woman above, Lana Del Rey, will be 2012's huge breakthrough star. Everybody's favorite "different" girl.

- Adele will get her 3rd #1 in a row with "Set Fire To The Rain." She'll perform it at The Grammy's, it'll be huge until about May, and then she'll go on a US tour, then go on hiatus for a year or two.

- There will be many successful newcomers to the R&B world. (Sonyae Elise, Bridget Kelly, Luke James, Cherlise, Mateo, Elle Varner, CJ Hilton), Bridget being the biggest.

- Frank Ocean will become a mainstay on the charts. He won't top 'Nostalgia, Ultra' though.

- Beyonce will tell the same story about giving birth over & over while promoting '4' & 'A Star Is Born.'

- Chris Brown will have a #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and reach the peak he was at in 2008.

- Kelly Rowland will become an X Factor US judge (either her or Mariah Carey, or both) and her US stock will skyrocket after she releases her dance music here, and performs it on the show.

- Mariah Carey will have a huge year.

- Toni Braxton will put out an album, as will Tamar Braxton. Who'll be more successful? Toni.

- Jennifer Lopez will release a greatest hits album around May (end of American Idol), it'll go #1, and she'll have a #1 on the Hot 100 after her performance on 'Idol.'

- Rihanna will continue to plug 'Talk That Talk' numerous hits until 'Battlefield' is released in May, then hopefully she'll fade away for a few months, at least.

- With the help of L.A. Reid, Ciara will take her place back at the top of the charts. She'll give the best performance at the BET Awards and have a top 3 album this summer, selling at least 180K.

- Jessie J will finally have her huge breakthrough in the US and amass numerous top 10 singles, maybe one #1 single; it'll feature a rapper.

- Cody Simpson will become the new Justin Bieber as Bieber attempts to become the new Justin Timberlake.

- Melanie Fiona will finally get the credit she deserves and become one of everyone's favorite R&B singers after the release of 'The MF Life.' Her album will be the best R&B album of the year.

- Cassie will have a pretty successful comeback. Her single "King Of Hearts" will go top 40 and the follow-up will go top 30, she'll have a top 10 album that sells 50K first week. She'll become a feature queen.

- Neon Hitch will become a pop mainstay.

- Brandy will have a big comeback, releasing a slew of urban bangers, and give one of the best albums of the year.

- Bruno Mars will release one of the best albums of the year, and will be wildly successful with everything he touches.

- Teyana Taylor will finally release her music, win people over with her vocals, gain the respect she lacks, and become a music star.

- Andre 3000 will release a solo album this summer. Afterwards a new Outkast album will be announced.

- Nicki Minaj's 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded' album will suffer from a sophomore slump, unless she releases pop, "Super Bass" type singles...it's being rushed for no reason.

- The Weeknd won't have a mainstream breakthrough. He'll release more critically acclaimed "albums" and ride Drake's coattails.

- Teairra Mari will have 2 successful R&B singles and a great album. She'll be cast as a main character on VH1's 'Love & Hip Hop: Miami' as will Erica Mena, and Trina. (if the show happens...)

- Beyonce will give the best performance of the year. It'll be a performance of the first single from the 'A Star Is Born' Soundtrack, which may actually turn into her 5th album. It'll be released around Oscars' & Grammys' season in 2013.

- Kendrick Lamar will be 2012's J. Cole in terms of success & acclaim with no hit singles, doing at least 200K first week.

- Rita Ora & Alexis Jordan will become the new, urban "It" girls.

- Missy Elliott will FINALLY release her next album, become the go-to rapper (ala 3000 & Lil Wayne)

- Nicki Minaj will finally get some TRUE competition from many female rappers on the rise. Iggy Azalea will challenge her w/ sex appeal & pop fan appeal. Azaelia Banks & Nitty Scott will be the new "lyricists" causing Nicki to stop bullshitting about Lil Kim, and forcing her to step her game up. Win-Win situation for all parties involved.

- Lil Kim will top the Pay Pal Charts once again.

- Frank Ocean, Lana Del Rey and Kendrick Lamar will receive best new artist Grammy nominations.

- Alicia Keys & Ashanti will release two of the best R&B albums of the year, Alicia's being better of course.

- Kanye & Jay-Z announce 'Watch The Throne 2' and release solo albums towards the end of the year.

- Ellie Goulding will become a big star in America.

- Alexandra Burke will FINALLY come to the U.S. and show these non-dancing, non-singing acts how to do urban music & pop music correctly (much like her idol Beyonce). She'll be wildly successful in the UK.

- Melanie Amaro will have one hit single, a hit first album, and then start to fade away. She'll be like Jennifer Hudson: amazing vocals, but music is never really all that great. Chris Rene will be more successful.

- L.A. Reid will sign Chris Rene & Marcus Canty & Astro.... possibly even country-pop girl group Lakoda Rayne. All will be huge successes, Marcus being the least successful.

- Miley Cyrus will have a successful, slutty new image & album, like Christina's 'Stripped' era.

- Lindsay Lohan will finally get her shit together. Her Playboy cover may have saved her career.

- Lady Gaga will venture into acting, and be wildly successful, giving Oscar worthy performances.

- Taylor Swift will do something to tarnish her "America's Sweetheart" image. Finally.

REWIND 2011: Roc Nation Begins It's Take Over

When Jay-Z announced that he was starting his own label after leaving Def Jam back in 2008, I knew from the get go that it would become a major ground for talent. Alot of people thought it would fail just like Bad Boy has the past few years, especially after the only release for a while was his own Blueprint 3, but I knew it wouldn't. And 2011 really set up shop for Roc Nation to start a major take over of the music industry. A few instances below:

Rihanna

Yes, Rihanna is signed to Def Jam; however, she's managed by Roc Nation. 2011 was a MASSIVE year for the Bajan beauty. She stayed at the top of the charts earlier this year with hit singles from her LOUD album. Then, she rushed out another album (I still don't understand why), in the middle of a tour for LOUD. Even still, her first single from Talk That Talk stayed at #1 for 8 weeks straight, meaning "We Found Love" passed up "Umbrella" to become Rihanna's biggest hit ever (I can't believe this is true). If that's not enough, Rih's LOUD toured grossed $90 million dollars this year. That's insane! The only woman to gross more was Taylor Swift ($104 million). I'd say Roc Nation made a damn good move in managing her. #WINNING

Jay-Z

Do I even need to explain? I mean, anytime 2 of the biggest rappers in the world to an album together, it's gonna be a big fucking deal. And anytime lyrics from your song (in this case "Niggas In Paris") become a mainstay a people's daily vocabulary, you've done your job. And he grossed $50 million on a 2 month long tour? And he has a baby due to be born in second minute? Now THAT shit cray.

J. Cole

It's been a long time coming for this guy. He's been signed to Roc Nation since the very beginning, but it was until just this September that he released his first album. And what a moment it was. Instead of selling 50K first week and having a top 10 single like most new rappers, Hov set Cole up to win in the long run. He toured on his own, he toured with Jay, he toured with Rihanna, then he did his own tour again: a LOYAL fanbase was established and J. Cole became a mainstay in conversations about the best new rapper. And let's not forget his album had the biggest 1st week sales of any debut album in 2011 & Best New Artist Grammy Nomination. #WINNING.

The Rising Roc Girls: Alexis Jordan & Bridget Kelly

US fans might not be familiar with Alexis, but her dance-infused debut UK album took the 19 year old to the top of the charts 3 times earlier this year with hit singles "Happiness" , "Good Girl" , & "Hush Hush." Though she struck super stardom in Europe & Australia, she was never launched in the US. I suspect that's because her sound is truly more urban than the international album showed, but the dance music works overseas, not over here. Either way, 2011 was good to Alexis, and 2012 will be even better. #WINNING

Bridget Kelly quickly became the year's most loved, new female R&B act when her Frank Ocean-penned, "Thinking About Forever" hit the Internet this fall. And ever since, things have been looking up for Bridget: magazine covers and major buzz, a critically acclaimed EP, etc. She didn't see success on the charts (like The Weeknd), but the buzz she's created is gonna skyrocket her to the top in the new year. #WINNING

Thaat's what happened in 2011. 2012 promises to be the year of the Roc Girl. J. Cole has a 2nd album coming out, but Alexis & Bridget, as well as little Willow Smith all have albums being released too. And I'll just say this: remember the name, Rita Ora.

Dawn Richard Teases w/ "Save Me From U" Trailer

She killed it! All 3 songs! And the new single, Ahhhhh! I'm too excited to hear the studio version with Nas! The vocals, the raw emotion, you can't teach that. Steve Rifkind, I need you to make sure this single is big, sir!

In other news, I had given up on "4 AM" becoming the hit single it deserves to be, but little did I know, it's still gaining radio spins every day. As of today, "4 AM" is #18 on the urban radio charts, and like I said, it's still increasing. Top 10 soon? I think so!

NEW SINGLE: B.o.B. (feat. Andre 3000) - Play The Guitar

It's not often an artist gets to do a song with their idol, especially on their second album, but Bobby Ray did just that with his second single from his Strange Clouds album, which is due out in March. Check out "Play The Guitar" which features the dopest rent-a-rapper alive (I mean that in a good way), Andre 3000.

Dope! It's not B.o.B's strongest song, but it gets the job done. And like his other recent features for Beyonce, Ke$ha, Jeezy, and Lloyd, Andre 300 brought the heat. Building momentum for a 2012 album perhaps?

I like the fact that B.o.B. could have easily went the "Nothin On You" or "Magic" route with his first few singles. I mean, in 2010, B.o.B was pop's favorite rapper. He's definitely showing a good balance between a mainstream and street sound. "Strange Clouds" & "Play The Guitar" both have crossover appeal, but let him keep his street cred as well.
Since the album comes out in March, I say after this song runs it's course (shouldn't take long) and goes top 20 (won't go top 10 I don't think), B.o.B should release a really street, Justice League, Drummer Boy or Lex Luger record as a dual single with a pop record (like "Airplanes") with a feature from someone like....Katy Perry or Lady Gaga (I really wanna see this one happen). He didn't sell much the first time (although he did go gold which is rare nowadays), but with that approach I think he'll do really good number this time. At least in the 200's.

The Best Performances of 2011

Some people are gonna HATE this list, but this is the honest truth, so they'll just deal with it I suppose. You know who (arguably) the best performer alive is, and though she fell "sick" most of the year, she gave at least 3 EPIC, untouchable performances. There were other artists who came close, but none did it like Bey. So with that being said, check out my list for the best performances of 2011.

1. Beyonce - "Run The World" (Live at The Billboard Awards)

After this performance, even the most bitter Beyonce hater I know had nothing bad to say. That's when you know you shut shit down. Though the opening bit's idea was borrowed, this performance hands down, was the best of the year.

2. Beyonce - "The Beautiful Ones"/"Sex On Fire" (Live at The Glastonbury Festival)

This was just another legendary performance. She puts her all in every performance she does, which is why she rules this list.

3. Beyonce - Love On Top (Live at The MTV Video Music Awards)

Besides the ridiculous, hardcore vocals she put into this, she announced her pregnancy and shut the Internet down. Nobody saw it coming, NOBODY. And Jay and Kanye's reactions were CLASSIC. And did yall peep Adele? She was jammin, lmao.

4. 2NE1 - "Lonely"/"I Am The Best" (Live at the MAMAs)

If you started watching this and stopped because of the ballad, I REALLY need you to fast forward to 3:20 and get into the EPICNESS that occured. And if you paused thru that bit, fast forward to about 7:00 to witness another dose of epicness. They fucking destroyed that stage, especialy CL (the one with the brown ponytail and bangs). Be on the lookout for them come 2012. Will.i.am and Interscope are preppring them for their US debut.

5. B.o.B/Bruno Mars/Janelle Monae - "Nothin On You"/"Grenade"/"Cold War" (Live at The Grammys)

Best performance from this year's Grammy's in my opinion. Three immensely talented newcomers coming together to give a performance they most likely could have never booked solo, especially at the Grammy's. Whoever booked this performance, they deserve a pay raise. And Janelle Monae, she MURDERED it!

6. Adele - Someone Like You (Live at The Brits)

This is enough to make Donald Trump want to cry.

Again, this woman is going down in history books for being one of the baddest bitches to ever touch a stage. You just can't fault performances like these. And it still blows my mind that she was with child during this concert. Who does that? Only Beyonce...(and J Lo).

8. Jennifer Lopez - "Papi"/"On The Floor" (Live at The AMAs)

42 years old, doing it better than everyone else in the industry right now, sans a select few. You can't fault that. What she does now is what people like Rihanna should be doing, but unfortunately can't because of lack of talent and hard work. And the fact that she's a mother of twins and 20 years older than her competition, you can't help but respect the hustle. Let's not even get me started on that bodysuit. That damn Fiat though...ugh. lol

9. Kelly Rowland - "Motivation" (Live at The BET Awards)

This performance might have saved Kelly Rowland's career. Like forreal, this was her do or die moment. And she came on that stage and shut shit down, channeling Janet Jackson with the super sexy dance moves. Too bad she wasn't given ALL the shine though, as she came out right after Trey Songz. She killed it though. This performance is the reason why "Motivation" is arguably the biggest R&B song of the year. Who saw that coming from from Kelly at the start of the year? ABSOLUTELY NOBODY.

10. Lady GaGa - You & I (Live on ABC's The View)

No extra, unnecessary shit. No electronic instruments. No crazy costumes & cocoons. Just pure talent, sitting at a piano and singing her heart out.

11. Chris Brown - "All Back"/"Say It With Me" (Live at The AMAs)

I chose this performance over his stupid good VMAs performance because, yeah the VMAs performance was insane, but he didn't sing one word the entire time. And in this performance he showcased his vocals (which have vastly improved) to my favorite song from F.A.M.E. AND he ended with his untouchable dance moves. Hopefully Fortune continues to see Chris Brown's growth as not only a performer, but as a vocalist.

After much debate as to whether or not America would vote for the feel good story (Chris Rene) or the true talent (Josh Krajcik or Melanie Amaro), it seems like America voted for what they're used to, the talent.

In the first season of Simon Cowell's 'X Factor USA,' 19 year old R&B singer Melanie Amaro has been declared winner. She will receive a $5 million recording contract ($1 million for each of her 5 albums she's under contract for now, I believe) and her very own Pepsi commercial that will debut during the Super Bowl in February. She will also be the newest R&B superstar, a much needed one at that, who will receive a ridiculous amount of promotion & hype next year. Sounds good right?

The Best 10 Albums of 2011

In a day in age where sales are down & singles run everything, 2011 was still a year that saw some blockbuster and quality albums hit store shelves. But that being said, some of the best music was also put into the world without the backing of a label, or just not in CD format. So with that being said, check out my list for the best "albums" of 2011:

1. Beyonce - '4'

Do I even need to explain this one? I mean, it's Beyonce. It's good, quality R&B music. Besides the hiccup that was "Run The World," you really can't fault this album at all. In fact, if she would've replaced "Countdown" & "Run The World" with "Dance For You" & "Schoolin Life" , and released the album just as a standard version, I would say '4' is a classic R&B album. It almost is, but it's not. Maybe '5' will be...

2. Adele - '21'

'21' really is a flawless album. It really is. But Adele just doesn't make the type of music I want to hear all the time. I can listen to the first 7 or 8 songs on her album no problem, but then after that, my attention spans wanders elsewhere. That's the reason she's #2, despite selling 14.5 million copies of this album in 11 months. I still love her though.

3. Common - 'The Dreamer, The Believer'

You thought I was predictable and was gonna put Watch The Throne here, didn't you? Well, truth be told, Common's new album is just as strong as 'Watch The Throne,' and lyrically, it's even stronger. The fact that No I.D. and Common did this entire album together makes it even better. In my mind, this album is a modern day classic.

4. Jay-Z & Kanye West - 'Watch The Throne'

OK, now it's time for everyone's favorite hip hop duo. There's no denying that the urban music universe flipped the fuck out when it was announced that these two were doing an album together. And then "H.A.M." dropped and left damn near everyone depressed because quite frankly, it sucked. But then all of that was forgotten once "Otis" was dropped and the release of the album was announce like two weeks before it came out. The fact that it didn't leak also helped keep the anticipation extremely high (We definitely need to see the "iTunes first then store shelves" approach more often). But once people got their hands on the album, the lyrical content, the beats, the audacity and showmanship was on an all time high. The only thing I didn't like about the album, believe it or not, was the Beyonce featured "Lift Off." Everything else was genius. I can't wait for "Part 2" if there is one. Jay said there might be in 2012 so watch this space.

5. Frank Ocean - 'Nostalgia, ultra.'

Everybody's favorite new...black male artist. I say black and not R&B because Frank Ocean breaks barriers. He's not one genre. His songs "There Will Be Tears" and "American Wedding" showcase this. He's much more of what I like to call, an "urban alternative" artist, so I'm glad and I respect that he took it upon hisself to release the EP/mixtape instead of waiting for Def Jam to approve a "radio friendly" single for him, something he had been waiting on for quite sometime before the EP dropped. Here's to hoping 2012 is a huge year for Lonny Breaux.

6. Mary J. Blige - 'My Life II: The Journey Continues'

This album is about as good as modern R&B gets. Mary J. Blige is the Queen of Hip Hop/Soul and this album showcase why she is, and why she has lasted in the game for 20 years. The fact that she can stay so grounded in a 90's R&B pocket, but modernize her sound at the same time is so dope. From track 1, all the way until "Empty Prayers" (#11), the album is flawless. But after that...yikes. If you don't have it, go buy it for a loved one for Christmas. Just DO NOT get the deluxe version. The standard version is all that is needed.

7. Jessie J - Who You Are

If it wasn't for the other British chick that came and took over America, Jessie J would have been our honorary British Queen. But thanks to Adele, Jessie played second fiddle over here in America. That still doesn't take away from the amazing quality of her debut album though. The US has yet to really take note of the raw talent this girl possesses, but once she stops releasing these Katy Perry wannabe singles, America will be in awe of the vocal. Just watch.

8. J. Cole - 'Cole World: The Sideline Story'

I don't think I've ever been as happy to buy an album as I was to buy this. I remember the morning it came out, I drove to two different Target's, both of which were sold out, and finally drove 20 miles away from my college campus to Best Buy to get this CD. Anybody else & I probably would've just...you know. But I needed to support this guy. I've been riding with him since 'The Warm Up' days, back when I would play "Losing My Balance" & "Dreams" over and over, so to finally see his album hit stores and to see how happy he was about it, and the fact that it went #1 and sold more than Rihanna's ever sold in her first week, with no hit single made it all the better. And then once I heard the music, it was a wrap. 3 days after the CD came out, I went to his show in Orlando, the first concert since the album dropped and the atmosphere was just...I can't even describe. In 10 years time, people might think of 'Cole World' as Cole's 'Illmatic.'

9. Marsha Ambrosius - 'Late Nights, Early Mornings'

Marsha's album is just good R&B and impeccable vocals & lyrics. All there is to it.

10. Bridget Kelly - 'Every Girl EP'

Bridget fucking Kelly. I've been a fan since that 9/11 benefit concert Jay-Z did back in 2009 and she sang "Empire State of Mind" for Alicia Keys. And ever since then, I've been like a crackhead waiting to get my fix. And she finally gave me my fix, or at least a taste, a couple of months ago. This EP single handely destroys 80% of today's so called "R&B albums." Bridget's raw vocals & realness on tracks like "White Lies" and "In The Morning" just make you say "Damn, this bitch is mad dope." And for that, she's #10. And this is just a taste of what's to come.

Melanie Amaro Duets w/ R. Kelly on X Factor Finale

My favorite to win (unless America votes for Chris just because he's 8 months sober, and his dad died last week) is Ms. Melanie Amaro. Though she's bored me week after week with her flawless performance of ballads, there's no denying the talent that this girl possesses. And with the right team of writers and producers, she can become a R&B powerhouse in the years to come.

On the last performance show, each finalist got to duet with a superstar in one of their final performances. Rocker Josh Krajcik performed with the amazing Alanis Morissette, urban-pop singer Chris Rene performed with the not-so-legendary Avril Lavigne, and soul diva Melanie Amaro performed "I Believe I Can Fly" with the amazing, legendary R&B king, R. Kelly. Peep that performance below:

Amazing. Though he overpowered her once he came out, they killed it! I really hope she wins tonight, and not Chris Rene. She's like Jennifer Hudson mixed with Mary J. Blige mixed with Mariah Carey. Hopefully she doesn't just get thrown in the studio with Ester Dean, Stargate, Tricky & Dream, the usuals. Hopefully L.A. takes the time (regardless of if she wins, there's no doubt L.A. is gonna sign her to Epic) to craft a solid, '4' meets 'My Life (Part 2)', album for her.

One of my favorite songs from Lloyd's criminally underrated King Of Hearts album seems to finally be getting single treatment. This video was shot way back in July, but is just now seeing the light of day. Anyways, peep the very sexual video for "Be The One" below:

If this isn't a hit for Lloyd, I don't now what will be. This song has everything there needs to be in order for him to get a hit. Two super dope features, a ridiculously dope beat, a catchy chorus, a video for the ladies to gawk at, everything is there. I just hope for Lloyd's sake, that this catches on like wildfire on radio because the track is sick!

Little did I know, Lana's debut album is planned to be released at the end of January. So soon? But, maybe she'll be one of those artists that start off kind of slow, and then blaze away for the rest of the year.

Anyways, a new album track has hit the Internet entitled, "Off To The Races." It features a more hip hop, radio-friendly, but still underground "Lana" feel. Check it out below:

I'm on the fence with this one. Like, I think I like it, but I'm not 100% sold on it yet. It's gonna take a few full listens for me to make up my mind. She's defintiely on the road to massive success. And this sounds like it could be a worthy follow-up to "Born To Die" after that single runs it's course. Be on the lookout for Lana to hit the Saturday Night Live stage on January 14.

Bad Boy is definitely off to a good start with this "re-launching" of the label. Red Cafe's "Fly Together" is doing really good on radio, and the new remix with J. Cole, Wale, and Trey Songz is bound to help it go even further up the rap charts. French Montana is the most buzzed about street rapper there is right now. Cassie's gearing up for a big 2012. And now Machine Gun Kelly , who sells out 5,000 seat shows already, is starting to really gain a decent buzz around himself outside of his diehard, core fanbase.

His new song, "Invincible," features Rihanna's savior, Ester Dean, and is produced by Alex Da Kid. And to help matters, the song is featured in the new commercial for HTC's Rezound phone. Big things for MGK. Listen to the track below:

Alex Da Kid really likes to stick to his winning beat format huh? Sounds just like all of his other rap beats, but what can you do? Anyways, MGK definitely went in over the beat and Ester's vocals will have the young white girls thinking it's Justin Bieber on the hook, so it's a win-win situation.

This video single handedly made me go from being disgusted by "We Found Love" to actually, not minding it at all. This video is THAT good. Beautiful, dark, touching, sexy, all in one.

4. Katy Perry (feat. Kanye West) - E.T.

Katy Perry had a 2011 music artist only dream of. And most music artists also dream of having a video this good. Katy and Kanye shut shit down with this one!

5. Beyonce - Run The World

The only video from the '4' era even remotely close to being on this list. Much like the "We Found Love" video, this video from Beyonce made me go from hating her before it dropped, to loving her and clowning everyone that was not her, afterwards. That's a bad Bey!

6. Girls Generation - The Boys

Another epic K-pop video. I think America might want to watch for these girls in 2012. These koreans are stupid talented. Much like the ones below.

7. 2NE1 - I Am The Best

Voted by MTV as 2011's best new band, these ladies are looking to take the US by storm next year. It'll be interesting to see if they can crack America. I hope one of these groups can because their insanely talented, much more than most American acts out now in the pop field...

8. Lana Del Rey - Born To Die

This video premiered just days ago, but it's big budget feel & over the top, sleek & detailed style is amazing! Lana has gone from internet sensation 6 months ago, to being one of the year's most talked about newcomers. And it seems Interscope Records is not accepting "NO" as an answer when I comes to Lana becoming a huge star. For example, she's already booked to perform on 'SNL' in January. Only other person to perform on 'SNL' before their debut album was released....Jessie J.

9. Mayer Hawthorne - The Walk

I love waking up and playing Cops & Robbers with my girlfriend too. Plus, this song is so smooth...

10. M83 - Midnight City

I really like this one. Haters can say want they want about her voice, but I hear nothing wrong with it. It's not powerful, but it's soothing and smooth and angelic, just like it's owner. I really hope 2012 is a big year for Cassie. She has a lot of things to prove to people on the music front and I really hope she delivers, because lord knows her music is just amazing (see: "Must Be Love" , "Skydiver").

Last night, X Factor judge came from behind the judges' table give a premiere performance of her new pop/rock meets soul single, "Pretty." Everyone at home and in the audience (including Simon) seemed to be in agreeance, she MURDERED it! Check out the performance below:

Vocally, she sounded amazing! She added in a lot of rock growls (which is natural to her because she love rock music) and it really helped me, at least, believe what she was saying. The lyrics were like a diary into her relationship with Lewis Hamilton, a relationship that ended just recently after years of dating. I hope this is the one for her. It has top 40 written all over it, but it doesn't bite Lady Gaga's sound or Rihanna's...could Nicole have finally found her lane?

Common Delivers a 5 Minute Long REAL FREESTYLE

Nowadays, rappers go on radio shows and "freestyle" over a beat, but clearly you can see them looking at their written verses on a Blackberry (Drake), or sometimes they even spit verses from songs that haven't come out yet (J. Cole). Rarely do you see rappers give legit, off the top of the head freestyles anymore, and damn sure not for 5 minutes straight. But Common, one of the most underrated rappers that has ever existed, did just that. Watch below:

He MURDERED that! Good to see actual talent these days. Alot of people can make a hot song in the studio and write a record in thirty minutes, but not on the spot. Kudos to Common.
