Tonight, America got it's first look at the epicness that is kpop girl groups. Girls Generation, one of Korea's best & most popular girl groups are looking to take over the States, and they started their journey on The Late Show with David Letterman. Perfect English. Perfect Choreography. Sexy Ladies Galore. Watch below:
They absolutely murdered it! Besides Beyonce, when's the last time you've seen an American TV performance this good? I'm not a huge fan of there being 9 of them, it seems a little much, but they killed it! I hope they find success here in America. I could get used to seeing performances like that more often. Hopefully Robin Antin has been watching K-Pop performances and has The Pussycat Dolls dancing just as hard in their comeback.
If you haven't seen the video for the song they performed, check it out below.
Their official name is Girls' Generation, with the ' after Girls ^^
ReplyDeletethanks for the glowin review
grammar police, pull over muthertrucker!!!
Deletelmaooooo @ grammar police.
DeleteIt's comforting to see positive first impressions from people in the US. We Asian fans were quite nervous about how well will they do in places out of their comfort zone, but seeing some responses on Twitter, it was quite soothing at the very least.
ReplyDeleteIt's normal to feel awkward or uncomfortable with them having 9 members, but as you come to learn more about them, you will realize that Girls' Generation cannot exist without any 1 of the 9. =) Hope your interest in Kpop will spark from here.
You guys should check out all their other MVs. Just as awesome!
ReplyDeletethat be some cool chicks with some cool dance moves. I like the blonde with waves looks hawt and pro with her high notes
ReplyDeleteHer name is Taeyeon. She's the leader and lead vocalist of Girls' Generation. SHe's really an amazing singer.
DeleteShe's actually the main vocalist.
DeleteWelcome to peas world
Deleteproud with the girls..but they can perform better than this..go Girls generation~
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're one of the few Americans who loved the performance. You guys should watch their other performances and music videos too. Trust me you're not going to regret it. Girls' Generation is the top South Korean girl group right now. They have large fanbases all over the world, Asia, N.America, S.America and Europe.
ReplyDeleteThis blogger is "one of the few Americans who loved the performance", but they have "large fanbases all over the world, Asia, N.AMERICA, S.AMERICA, and Europe."
DeleteHuh?
AMAZING!!!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous#2 - I believe that the person you're referring to is Taeyeon. Since she's the only "blonde-ish + high notes" type there. ^^
ReplyDeleteEstuvo muy bonito! ellas son muy talentosas :)yoona, hyeyon, taeyon, soohyun, sooyoung, jessica, tiffany, sunny, yuri SNSD ♥
ReplyDeleteGirls' Generation, Wonder Girls, JQT, and 2NE1 will dominate USA and put American Artists in Shame! >:-)
ReplyDeleteFly Guy Music, you should listen to Girls' Generation's Japanese Album, if you want to hear more of them!
So proud of our girls <3
ReplyDeleteI was a SONE (Girls' Generation fan) since 2009 and I'm still a fan ^^
Hopefully all of you will get to know the 9 better (: They are really a talented group. Even if they get hate messages daily, they still fight if off and work hard to gain as many fans as possible!
Wish them luck ♥
Girls' Generation is really big here in Asia, and I'm really glad someone from America would like such a good review abou them ^^ The 9 members turned me off at first because of the large number, but once you get to know them, you'll see why it is necessary to have 9 of them :P Do check out their other videos.
ReplyDeleteMe parecio totalmente Genial el performance.
ReplyDeleteLa manera en la que bailan es WOW.. y las chicas que cantaron las notas altas fueron impresionantes.
Creo que soy un Nuevo fan de Girls Generation!
They really nailed it. Although the size of David Letterman's performance stage made them looked "squeezed" compared to those of shows in Korea like "Inkigayo", "MNET Countdown" and "Music Core", I'm glad that they made a positive impression on Americans. They are really far from killer sexy ladies like Beyonce and the Pussycat Dolls, but I hope they will remain their sweet, conservative but sexy self in their American performances. So proud to be a SoNE (meaning "So One", that's what their fans and official fan club are called)....
ReplyDeleteBy the way, "SO ONE", stylized with a heart character in place of the two o's (getting changed into "SONE", is a homophonic rendering in English of the Korean word "soweon", meaning "wish". It was the Korean title of "Honey" off their first album.
DeleteI'm an American just saw this group on Letterman and found this blog entry through google.
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly good. I mean really unexpected. Had no idea this stuff was out there in Asia...
Glad you liked it! Haha there's a LOT of this stuff out in Asia. KPOP artists are all amazing performers. Check them out :) I recommend Girls' Generation (of course), 2NE1, Brown Eyed Girls, KARA, etc.
DeleteAnd thus the purpose of their venture here has been -- at least partly -- served. They are the most popular group in Asia now, but the ones right behind them are no slouches, either. The reigning queens in Korea just prior to SNSD (from Girls' Generation's Korean name, Sonyeo Shidae) are Wonder Girls, who have their acting debut in English in a TV-movie on TeenNick Thursday night. Wonder Girls' style is more similar to Motown/classic R&B than Girls' Generation, and they've been living in America for most of the last three years. They're also worth checking out, as are the more hip-hop influenced 2NE1, who are finishing up (maybe, finally?) an English-language debut at least partly produced by Will.i.am. There are quite a few other groups beyond these, but these three are putting forth major efforts to appeal to Americans with the one concession they really need to make: recording in English.
DeleteI would highly recommend anyone who's interested in Girls' Generation after seeing this performance listen to their self-titled Japan album "Girls' Generation".
ReplyDeleteplease this group stay in US...i need some epicness like this one on TV.
ReplyDeleteKpop got what it takes to make it in the States... They are changing their style to suit American tastes. They will be tough competitors once kpop flow into the America market. Good job tonight girls
ReplyDeleteThank you for the positive review. Girls' Generation is very, very popular in Asia and has huge fan base in America and Europe. They are an amazing group with talented individuals and they are not stuck up at all, very nice persons in real life.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the positive review.. They are DaeBak(Amazing)!!!
ReplyDeleteThe girls is very popular now, hope they can be the best of all..
Fighting!!!
Thank you for your great review! They're amazing.
ReplyDeleteThey really big in Asia. There are many reasons why people
love them. One of them was the glory at the Late Show just now.
They are a group with very talented individuals with nice personalities.
Hope you will be a SONE! :)
I cried when i look through the comments . AWESOME GUYS !!! CONTINUE TO LOVE Girls' Generation ! They're the most amazing kpop group you can find in this world .
ReplyDeleteThank you for the positive review. GG are amazing. Good luck to 9 angels in US and the whole world~!
ReplyDeleteAdding another thank you for this review. I expected the worst out of my own country but you definitely proved me wrong.
ReplyDeleteglad to see more and more americans liking kpop... it doesnt matter if u understand the language or not, most of us dont really.. but like what many ppl say.. 'music is a universal language, it connects each one of us together!' thanks for the positive review.. i hope to see our girls on the TV more often!!
ReplyDeleteproud to be asian, moreover, proud to be a SONE!! :D
i'm so speechless and almost cried when i read the comments. thank you very much for loving our girls. yes, they totally bring the boys out (:
ReplyDeleteomygosh... I want to cry right now... Reading your comments about them makes me so happy... Being a Sone is definitely worth it. So proud of them.
ReplyDelete-hiddentruth06
Thanks so much for the positive review. Yes i recommend checking out their other hits. This is actually considered one of their notsogood songs and choreo even tho its great. I was like 'what...' when i first saw the group number but now im in love. Not one can be missing. Watch their variety shows! They all have eng subtitles hehe. They are the most popular and famous artists in asia and have received 7 years of training before debut. Thanks again and I LOVE YOU!
ReplyDeletethx for the + review.i'm sooo nervous when the girls perf glad they killed it XD
ReplyDeleteArrgghh, thank you for the positive review :) I'm glad America finds the girls epic. We know of their epicness since 2007 xD But hey, if you dwell more into them, you'll find these awesome confident alluring in-your-face girls are actually more dorky than you and me together xD Hey, that's why we love em :D
ReplyDeleteUS S<3NEs made me proud - I can hear bit of fan chant <3
I would recommend listen more to Kpop, more of Girls' Generation (with the appropriate apostrophe) is great, definitely rec their Korean albums, but other groups as well. Wonder Girls are releasing their made-for-Tv movie on Nicklelodeon. 2NE1 is another funky badass girl group you should check them out. Oh, can I really leave out Brown Eyed Girls? Check out their 2009 mind-blowing hit Abracadabra, I can guarantee you'll be swinging your hijp in no time.
Looks like you're getting comments and RTs pouring in like crazy, but I'm gonna add one more, haha :D
ReplyDeleteYep, I agree with you, they murdered it! To be honest, I wasn't expecting too much from this performance. I mean, I've seen them perform this song countless times, but I think this one is high up there on the ranking of best performances by the Girls. Everything was so crisp and perfect (except for the small stage. Apparently it wasn't meant to be a stage for 9 dancing ladies, lol), and I was totally amazed by the dance breaks inserted into this performance.
Anyways, yes, I now firmly believe that, given the right opportunities like tonight and timing and effort, the Girls probably will be successful here (though how you measure success is a debatable topic).
Some of these comments are creepy.
ReplyDeleteIf you enjoy this music then why would you be SURPRISED that other people enjoy it?
And why are people crying?
just to clear out your doubts, it's normal for k-pop fans to be "crying" of excitement. Trust me, we're all a bunch of silly people that react crazily over our idols. And the reason we were surprised was because we were nervous about how the US will react to it, since they are going out of their Asian zone.
DeleteReading stuffs on twitter, it's not surprising to see new fans as well as new haters.
But that's just how K-pop is I guess.
you'll know why i will cry if you like them since their debut in 2007 . crying of happiness , you know :) fyi , i burst out crying even , when they got awards . Like MAMA in SG , i screamed and cried at home and my family were all shocked . LOL . So yeah ... crying of happiness . :)
DeleteI sent it to ya on Twitter, but here's a link to the "coloured lyrics" of the song. So it's easier to tell who sings what part, this blog has the song colour coded so each girl's lines are easy to find!
ReplyDeletehttp://snsdlyrics.wordpress.com/2011/10/19/girls-generation-the-boys-english-ver/
That should help you a bit, although as it's a remix it's a little different, but you shouldn't have much trouble working out who's who after a few watches. The hardest to tell apart are YoonA and Yuri.....I swear, even after following them since 2009 I still have trouble picking them out! >_<
Love, love, love K-Pop! As much as I love SNSD,I think 2NE1 suits Americans' tastes better, so it'll be really interesting when they debut here. I personally can't wait for the guy groups too! Went to SM Town Live in NY and every single performer was amazing! So hopefully there will be more of those.
ReplyDeleteSNSD 화이팅! Good job~
I am a SONE! Meaning Girls' Generation fan, and im really proud of these girls, but to fit American tastes, they have to change their style to something more like the boys. I mean i want them to succeed in america, but i dont want them to change their style too much. But we'll see what happens, ill support them no matter what!
ReplyDeleteBesides SNSD, theres 2ne1 which you guys will like for sure, big bang, jay park. those are a must listen to. jay park would be the most americanized one since he is from the states, and his music are really similar to american tastes.
but yeah i was pretty nervous about this because a lot of americans are very unopenminded when it comes to things they dont understand, especially a language that is so foreign to them. Music is a universal language, whether it's korean, japanese, english, french, etc, we should all enjoy music. even if you dont understand what it is saying, you should feel the emotions from the music itself and then you'll understand what music is. just something i thought americans should realize. not saying all, but most.
Well i hope everyone a great day! :)
Wow.. I really know girls generation about 5 month ago. And now their debut at US..so proud to be sone..I love taeyeon so much and of coz I love SNSD(girls generation) hope their healthy and smile always. Snsd fighting!
